Dacos is developing a completely new generation of software solutions for the simulation and optimization of assortments, prices and promotions for the retail industry. These software solutions are based on the most current findings both in the area of Artificial Intelligence and trade and marketing research.
The Company
The Retail Simulation Suite from Dacos is a software solution that reliably simulates, analyses and predicts the customer´s purchasing behavior. Therefore it uses latest scientific methods from the field of Artificial Intelligence and econometric models. Thus the Retail Simulation Engine achieves significantly more precise results than conventional analysing software. The system was developed in cooperation with the pilot customers dm-drogerie markt, tegut and Globus and is distributed since 2007.
Dacos´ analysing system is beneficial not only for the retail industry, but can be applied to many industries that dispose of vast data material in order to analyse, forecast and simulate the behavior of market actors.
Dacos Software GmbH was founded in 1977 and has attained great reputation with international trade players as a developing company for merchandise management systems since the 1980s. Having been taken over by SAP in 1994, the company was renamed SAP Retail Solutions in 1997.
The ”new“ Dacos Software GmbH was established in 2001 in Saarbrücken, initially within the framework of a research project, and later as a spinoff of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence. The company counts among its founders Professor Dr. Joachim Hertel, Professor Dr. Joachim Zentes and Professor Dr. Jörg Siekmann, all professors at the University of Saarland.

In 1978, Joachim Hertel and partners founded Dacos Software GmbH which was a software company specialized in merchandise management systems. He was CEO of that company for more than 20 years. After the acquisition of the company by SAP and the change of name into SAP Retail Solutions, he was director of SAP´s IBU “trade & consumer goods industry”. From 2001 to 2004 he was chairman of infor business solutions AG, a software company for ERP software for the medium sized manufacturing industry. Since 2005, Prof. Hertel is CEO of his new-founded Dacos Software GmbH, a software company for simulation systems. On top of this he is honorarium professor for computer sciences at the university of Saarbrücken.
